About Propositions A & B

Props A and B will provide $4.4 billion in funding to allow us to make essential investments in Houston ISD schools–WITH NO NEW TAXES. Our kids can’t wait–they need and  deserve healthy schools NOW!

The last time Houston ISD passed a school bond was in 2012 for high schools. Elementary and middle schools haven’t seen an infrastructure bond since 2007. In the decades since, many of our schools have fallen into disrepair, posing serious safety and health threats to our children.

PROP A

Prop A will provide $3.96 billion for construction, rehabilitation and upgrades at our schools; including:

  • $2.29 billion to rebuild more than 40 aging campuses and renovate many others.

  • $1.04 billion for safety and security upgrades including: critical repairs to remove mold and lead; ensuring safe drinking water; replacing aging and broken HVAC systems, as well as creating single points of entry at all schools to help keep kids safe.

  • $1.07 billion for technology upgrades, including creating three new career and technical education centers and expanding the availability of Pre-K.

PROP B

Prop B will provide $440 million for technology equipment and systems, technology infrastructure, instruction technology so our kids can learn using the latest resources.

Together, Props A & B will make sure our kids can learn and are prepared for the jobs of the future – and Props A & B will NOT raise taxes!

Kids Can’t Wait - We Need Healthy Schools Now!

Durham Elementary

Students and teachers at Durham Elementary regularly see schedules upended due to leaks or problems with air conditioning. This environment has made it harder for students to learn and causes hardship for staff and students alike.

The HISD bond would allow the District to fully rebuild and expand Durham Elementary while strengthening school security and safety and creating a healthier environment for the 560 students who attend the school.

Fondren Middle School

Water leaks, mold and cracks in the walls are just a few of the issues students have to deal with at Fondren Middle School.

If voters pass Prop A and Prop B, the school is expected to receive $24 million for renovations with a priority placed on permanent solutions to upgrade the HVAC system and finally address the mold issue that has plagued the campus.

Why is it so important for us to pass the Houston school bond this year? Because too many of our students are learning in unsafe environments. Here are just a few examples of why we need to vote FOR Props A and B.
